Geoff Freeman has set the tone as the industry comes together in Las Vegas

Geoff Freeman, President and CEO, American Gaming Association, has taken a characteristically statesmanlike position on the appalling atrocity that took place in Las Vegas and has reverberated around the world. In an open communication to the international gaming industry, Freeman appealed for a unified industry response, stating:

“Today is a difficult day – and there are more questions than answers regarding this shocking tragedy. Las Vegas is the beating heart of our industry. AGA and the entire casino gaming industry is focused on helping the Las Vegas community recover.

One way we can begin to recover is by uniting as an industry. Global Gaming Expo (G2E) is the one time per year that the totality of our industry convenes. In lieu of my state of the industry keynote tomorrow morning at 8:45 a.m. (in Hall D on the expo floor), I’ve asked former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis to join me on stage. Ed is a friend of the AGA and led the City of Boston’s response to the Boston Marathon bombing. He will share with us the valuable lessons he learned as he led his community through those terrible days and the early stages of its recovery. Ed’s remarks will be followed by our planned Gaming Leaders panel discussion. I encourage you to attend.

Many of you have asked how you can help. The American Gaming Association is making a $100,000 contribution to The Las Vegas Victims’ Fund to support victims and their families, and we encourage you to donate as well. Other ways to help include:

Donating blood: find a donation center;

Contributing to the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada; or

Making your own donation to The Las Vegas Victims’ Fund.

G2E is an opportunity to learn, unite and empower our industry to be smarter and stronger. Now more than ever, we encourage you to participate in sessions that address these timely topics – please view all sessions.

Our industry is strongest when we work together. Thank you for your support of G2E, the gaming industry – our employees, our customers and our communities – and the city of Las Vegas.”
