Construction work at the $36m Cascades Casino in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, has got underway, with the project set for completion in mid-2019.

Once finished the property, operated by Gateway Casino and Entertainment will count 300 slot machines and 12 table games in its gaming estate.

“It was just three months ago that the mayor and I stood next door at the Bradley Centre to announce we had committed to build a new casino here in Chatham-Kent,” said Gateway CEO, Tony Santo. “Today we break ground and start the construction of what we know will be a great state of the art entertainment attraction for your community and an important contributor to the local economy.”

“This is a first-class organisation and I think the people of our community are going to be very pleased with the new casino and restaurant,” said Chatham-Kent mayor Randy Hope.

“It’s one piece of a puzzle that can change the face of Chatham-Kent to become an attraction. I hear it from my citizens, what is there to do in Chatham-Kent? Well, we’re going to add more to the venue. This is only the building block of many things that could occur in the area.”

The Cascades project will be Gateway’s first new build in Ontario, a region where the company already operates a number of slot parlours and smaller scale gaming properties as part of racetrack properties.
