The regional government of Galicia has signed off on a new casino in the autonomous community which is expected to open by next April.

To facilitate the development of the new property, the Galician government has amended the local gaming legislation, removing a clause which only permitted a single casino in each of the region’s four provinces.

The government stated that the change in the law will “boost and generate direct and indirect economic activity in the city [of Vigo]” and create employment.

The move paves the way for Luckia Group and Cirsa to open their new casino in the city in spring 2019. While the venue will be called Vigo Casino, it is actually a satellite venue, operating under the licence for the companies’ existing property, Casino La Toja, in O Grove.

In a brief statement, Alfonso Rueda Valenzuela, vice-president of the Xunta stated that “the opening of an additional gaming room for A Toxa Casino in the municipality of Vigo has been authorised following the examination of all the required documentation”.

Situated in the A Laxe Shopping Centre, the E6m new venue will occupy 2500sqm in total, with a 500sqm gaming floor hosting 80 slot machines and 12 gaming tables, along with a bar and restaurant and event space. “It will be smaller than [the casino in] A Toxa but it will have table games and machines, and also a corner for betting,” said the president of Luckia Group, José González Fuentes.
