In Washington state, the Sauk Suiattle Indian Tribe plans to open Last Chance Casino and Bingo at the start of September.

Situated in Darrington, the two-story 12,200sq ft property will include around 200 slot machines, a 70-seat bingo hall, and a small bar.

“The tribe has been looking to open up a facility for a long time,” said the venue’s general manager, Nino Maltos. “We’ve had a state [agreement] for years. There were a few attempts to try to open, but they weren’t successful.

“It’s going to create a lot of job opportunities, not only for tribal members, but for the town of Darrington.”

The tribe of nearly 300 members recently partnered with Willapa Bay Enterprise Corporation, the economic development arm of the Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe.

“It’s sovereign nation helping sovereign nation,” added Maltos. “They stepped up and said, ‘Hey, we’ll not only come in and wow your casino and make it look like a casino, but we’ll bring our whole management team in and make sure you’re all trained and turn-key by your opening date.’”

Maltos stated that given that the traffic flow for the new property is good from spring through autumn, it is possible the Tribe will consider further expanding the casino in future.
