The 2017 MGS Entertainment Show and Summit kicked off yesterday with its opening ceremony at The Venetian Macao.
In delivering the welcome speech, MGS organiser Jay Chun, chairman of the Macau Gaming Equipment Manufacturers Association (MGEMA), greeted more than 300 guests in attendance, including top government officials, executives of the Macau gaming operators, guests from major companies participating in this year’s event, and friends from the media.
Chun said: “We are extremely excited about the show this year. We have worked hard to make this a valuable and interesting event, both for our exhibitors and visitors. The theme of this year’s show is the Smart City, and we have many smart-city technologies displayed on the show floor – robotics, video surveillance, cloud computing, and mobile software applications. It is our goal to help pave the way for entrepreneurs who are coming up with innovative ideas that will change entertainment and everyday life for all of us.”
In sharing some of the highlights of the three-day MGS Entertainment Show, Chun added: “We are hosting a three-day summit, which is also exploring the role of smart-city technology, as well as looking at Macau’s role in China’s Belt and Road Initiative. We have speakers representing tech giants, gaming industry regulators, integrated resort operators, industry analysts and more.”
The officiating guests were given a tour of the show floor after the opening ceremony, visiting the booths of some of the 162 companies and organizations exhibiting this year. From small local suppliers to international household names, and from educational institutions to industry publications, a wide range of exhibitors catering to the broad-based entertainment industry are showcasing their wares at this year’s event.
SMART CITY, SMART ECONOMY
The Smart City, Smart Economy theme of the show has brought together a wide swath of companies at the leading edge of technology. Major players in cloud computing, video surveillance, mobile and social media applications, and robotics are shining a light on the state of the fast-changing industry.
Alibaba, Amazon, Hikvision, Sina, and Qihan, to name a few, are currently promoting their interpretations of the theme.
Getting the ball rolling on an engaging day of summit discussions, Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau (DICJ) director Paulo Chan discussed the importance of regulation and supervision to Macau’s economy.
The next two days of the summit will focus on e-sports, new gaming technology and new gaming markets, with talks and roundtable discussions featuring game developers, regulators, consultants, academics, and analysts.
