Melco Resorts and Entertainment’s Cyprus subsidiary has signed agreements with local universities, opening the door for full and partial scholarships for Cyprus Casinos employees.

The company, operated by Melco Cyprus, currently employs around 700 staff across its four satellite casinos and temporary casino in Limassol. A further 2,500 staff are due to join the firm once EUR550m City of Dreams Mediterranean development opens in late 2022.

Melco said that scholarships and reduced course rates had been agreed with a number of local institutions over the next three years to help educate employees in up to 35 fields including business administration, international tourism, hospitality and event management, accounting, finance, business intelligence and data analytics, human resources and security management.

“We believe supporting and developing our people drives success,” said Grant Johnson, property general manager of City of Dreams Mediterranean and Cyprus Casinos. “We therefore create a culture of excellence through talent development and investment. Embracing lifelong learning is core to Melco’s Corporate Social Responsibility philosophy, so the provision of colleague development and career advancement opportunities is a top priority.

“As the operator of Europe’s largest integrated resort, we are aware that we stand at the forefront of the country’s vital tourism industry. Hence, we want to ensure our people grow with us, receive the best possible education and training, gain academic credentials to maximise their potential and continue building successful careers,” he added.
