The Malta Gaming Authority has launched a new licensing system, which the regulator hopes will simplify the process for operators.
During a press conference addressed by the MGA’s executive chairman Joseph Cuschieri (pictured) and Silvio Schembri, a Maltese parliamentary secretary, the two officials unveiled the New Licensee Relationship Management System.
The system, which came about through a collaboration with Microsoft, comprises a secure dedicated web portal that digitises existing land-based licensing processes.
“The Malta Gaming Authority is taking another step towards achieving efficiency and innovation in the way it conducts its function as a regulator by applying information technology in regulatory processes,” Cuschieri said.
“This project further aids the Authority in providing a top end service to its licensees and practitioners alike. Our main objective remains; that of exceeding the expectations of all our stakeholders at large. And this portal goes a long way in achieving that.”
Within the first phase of the project, operators will be able to apply for remote gaming licences, as well as make requests for dynamic seal URLs, and submit players liability and gaming tax reports.
MGA hopes that the new system will enable operators to track the status of their applications online and meet the regulatory requirements.
Upon completion of the first phase, the regulator will extend the system to land-based operations including casinos, national lottery and commercial bingo operators, with the eventual aim of becoming the one-stop shop for gaming licensing in Malta.
Echoing Cuschieri’s statement, Schembri said: “This project forms part of the government’s vision for the improvement of our gaming jurisdiction.
“With similar initiatives, the Authority is excelling in the service given to those wishing to invest in our country, whereby said service always exceeds the expectations of the vast majority of operators.”
