Gaming Africa, the inaugural conference dedicated to the development of the industry across the continent, is being viewed as a landmark event by delegates, sponsors and organisers.

The high profile two-day learning and networking event, which closed in Johannesburg (25 October), attracted industry thought leaders and regulators from 52 countries, including 16 African nations. The full list of countries comprises: Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Grenada, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Lesotho, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Reflecting on the launch event, Kate Chambers, Managing Director of organisers Clarion Gaming, said: “We were approached to develop an event specifically for Africa during ICE in February. “Wherever we operate in the world, our objective is to contribute to the development of a sustainable industry and all of the early indications suggest we have come some way in meeting this core aim. Our job now is to reflect and engage with our stakeholders before determining how to best build on what appear to be very positive and well received first steps.”

The positive mood was echoed by Jaco van den Heever of TCSJOHNHUXLEY, who commented: “Once again Clarion delivered a successful event. Relationships have been forged never previously considered and ideas shared to further develop the gaming industry on our own continent. It has been a privilege to be part of this event and we look forward to future ventures and development.”

Tanja Botha of the Gauteng Gambling Board, added: “It was good to have a conference geared towards Africa, that involves all spheres of the industry – including regulators, operators and suppliers/manufacturers.”

Clarion Gaming is responsible for organising many of the industry’s leading business events, including ICE Totally Gaming, Juegos Miami, iGB Live!, EiG and GiGse.
