Travellers International Hotel Group has signed an agreement with Tokyo-based Hotel Okura Co. to operate the new hotel under the premium Japanese brand at Resorts World Manila (RWM).

The 191-room hotel will be constructed inside the RWM casino complex and is expected to open in Q4 2018.

The two companies also agreed to construct another 13-storey hotel with 380 rooms in Bayshore City Resorts World, an integrated resort located at Pagcor’s Entertainment City in Pasay City. This second property is expected to be constructed in 2020.

“As Hotel Okura’s first hotel to open in the Philippines, we will leverage the group’s expertise in traditional Japanese hospitality to make Hotel Okura Manila a much-beloved hotel among both local and foreign visitors,” said Toshihiro Ogita, president of Hotel Okura Co.

“For the past five years, the Philippines has experienced high economic growth surpassing six percent per annum, and its tourism market is expected to achieve mid- to long-term growth.”

Hotel Okura has been looking to expand its business overseas and the company reportedly aims to expand its global portfolio to 100 properties, primarily in the Asian region.

The company’s new properties in the Philippines will benefit from the ongoing growth in foreign visitors to the country, with visitor figures growing by an average of ten percent annually in recent years.

The Philippine Department of Tourism is working to attract over 12 million foreign tourists by 2022, and has made major investments in infrastructure in support of this.
