Russian casino operator Storm International is to open a branch of its Shangri La Casinos in Riga in October, becoming the fourth casino in the Latvian capital.
The new opening, also the fourth in the company’s Shangri La stable, will be located in the Kempinski Riga Hotel in the centre of the city, close to Riga International airport.
Targeting a high-end market among the city’s 650,000 residents, the casino will be decorated in an Art Deco style with a ground floor sports bar and a gaming room with slot machines, with the second floor being dedicated to gaming tables and a VIP room called X.O.
Storm International sought to establish a presence in the city earlier this year by becoming a partner at the Riga Gaming Congress held in August.
“First of all we are very interested in getting acquainted with local gaming business representatives,” said Lavrentiy Gubin, director of marketing and PR for Storm International. “Such events also allow participants to effectively exchange experiences and determine the latest trends.”
The Shangri La brand, launched in Moscow in 1999, is the original and most successful casino brand for Storm International, but the company now also operates the Storm Casinos chain of slot halls across eight Ger- man cities, designed in a more modern style, with bright carpets, coffee bars, and integrated internet-cafés.
The Shangri La Casino Riga is Storm International’s first venture in Latvia, however the company already operates casinos in Germany, Armenia, Georgia and Belarus.
