The World Poker Tour (WPT) announced last month that its National Tour will return to Spain and Portugal for its latest upcoming season.
With prize money of E1m guaranteed, the WPT National Iberia Main Event will run at three different venues in Madrid, Barcelona and the Algarve from May 12-15.
The hosting venues –Casino Gran Madrid, Casino Barcelona and Hotel Algarve Casino – will each run two starting flights on May 12 and 13, playing down until roughly seven per cent of the field is remaining at each venue on May 15. The field will then combine at Gran Casino Madrid for the Grand Finale event from May 21-22.
The next two editions of the National Iberia Main Event will conclude at the Hotel Algarve Casino in October, followed by the Casino Barcelona in January 2017. The most recent WPT National Tour event in Spain attracted more than 500 entries, and recreational player Edu Garcia Freixa topped the field to earn E50,000.
Head of WPT Europe, Hermane Blum, said: “The introduction of the MVS Presents: WPT National Iberia Main Event is a testament to the World Poker Tour’s constant evolution and the innovative partnerships the WPT has secured worldwide.
“We have already experienced great success in Spain with both the WPT Main and National Tours and we look forward to our first-ever event in Portugal as we bond together these two emerging markets to generate a massive prize pool for our players.”
